Our building is situated on the edge of the South Circular in vibrant part of South London. Its easy to get to by public transport.
The congregation reflects the diversity of cultures and the wide ethnic background of the people who live in the area. The rather fine Grade I listed building has stood the test of time, including the bombing raids of the 2nd World War.
Within the area of Streatham the different Anglican congregations offer a wonderful diversity of styles of Worship. Christ Church stands clearly and unashamedly in the Anglo-Catholic Tradition. For the tradition to live it needs to evolve and we try to hold on to the best whilst finding new expressions, especially those which reflect the wonderful mix of age and culture that makes us our congregation.
Like many other “Catholic” Parishes in Southwark Diocese Christ Church sees no contradiction in celebrating its rich catholic tradition and accepting warmly the Ordination of women.
Christ Church is also affiliated to “Inclusive Church”. We believe that Gods love is offered to all and that each individual is made in Gods image. Our aim is to encourage Christians to lead a life of fidelity and commitment to God and to each other. All are called to act and pray for the coming of Gods Kingdom. We seek to provide a place that is free from prejudice and where all are treated with dignity and respect.
We enjoy the close proximity of Christ Church Primary School. Many of the congregation first become involved with the Church through their desire to place their children in the school. Cordial relationships are nurtured with the staff and pupils and there are particular times of year when we share religious and social events.
It is good to say we also enjoy good relationships with other Christian Churches and worshippers from other faiths. We are happy to work with anyone who seeks to bring peace and prosperity to our local area.
The best way to find out about us is to come and be with us.
If we aren’t what you’re looking for we can probably put you in touch with someplace that is.
